Columbus street* in the District XIV, called
Zugló, of Budapest. This is the most green area of the
Pest side, immediately bordering with the central part of town. In addition Columbus street lies on that edge of Zugló which is included in the tourist maps over the central part of Budapest. It is abundantly communicated with the rest of Budapest by all means of public transport (bus,
metro, tram and trolley bus). If you like to walk, on your way to the city center you just have to cross the
City Park (Városliget), a complete tourist attraction in itself with the
Zoological and Botanical Garden, the Amusement Park, the
Vajdahunyad Castle and several important museums. Within the City Park is located also the
Széchenyi bath where you easily can spend the biggest part of a day, specially if the aim of your visit is to enjoy the many
thermal baths in Budapest.
Situated on the 1st floor of a solid 3 storey apartment-house built in 1962 and surrounded by a garden with lawn and trees higher than the building itself, the apartment measures 38 square meters and consists of entry hall, room, kitchen and bathroom. Both the room and the kitchen has wooden framed windows, letting enter light during the whole day, with no building in front which throws its shadow on the apartment. In wintertime both premises are warmed by gas-driven convectors, ensuring independent and individual regulation of the heating level in each of them. The room has a double bed and a sofa bed, so 4 persons can comfortably overnight. The bathroom is equipped with toilet, lavabo and bathtub, and receives warm water from a gas boiler, as it does the kitchen, where the cooking plate and the oven also functions with town gas. The spacious and well equipped kitchen has even space for a dining table and a wardrobe, so it serves also as a kind of second room in the apartment. The latter function of the kitchen is enhanced by the fact that instead of a fridge with a noisy compressor, your perishable food is kept in compact-size, completely silent absorption refrigerator, completed by a naturally ventilated pantry, which keeps a cool temperature even in summertime.
In order to preserve the apartment as a safe and enjoyable place for everyone to come, pets are not welcome and smoking is allowed only in the garden.
In Hungary 220 volt is used and the electricity outlets are like in continental Europe.
